DOG AND CAT MANAGEMENT ACT AND REGULATIONS

Councils in South Australia are responsible for the administration and enforcement of provisions under the Dog and Cat Management Act 1995.  The Act provides powers and functions for councils to manage day to day enforcement of the legislative provisions for responsible management of dogs and cats in the community.

Animal management involves the control and regulation of pets (otherwise called companion animals) by Local Government.  It is a community management service that pursues a two objectives:

  1. Minimise public pet nuisance and thereby maximise community pet benefit.
  2. Promote a municipal environment of responsible and considerate animal ownership.

DOG AND CAT MANAGEMENT BOARD OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA

The Dog and Cat Management Board is established under the Act to plan for, promote and provide advice about the effective management of dogs and cats throughout South Australia.
